RE: How long do you store fresh water

What about using bleach to purify my water?
If you're using treated tap water -- like city tap water -- and you do not need to purify the water before storing it in a clean container. You will not need to purify the water when you use it, if it's been stored for less than six months.

RE: DURAMAX DIESEL QUESTION - K&N FILTER KIT

Diesel engines are real sensitve to dust particals, especially the new common rail diesels. Dust will destroy a diesel engine if it gets by the filter, be real careful what filter you use.

RE: what is rear locking?

I don't think you are going to find true locking differentials on modern vehicles. They will be limited slip differentials.
Locking differentials lock both rear wheels together so that they both always turn at the exact same rate. Not desirable on hard surfaced roads. When turning corners, the outside wheel must turn more than the inside wheel or one or the other of the tires will have to slip on the pavement. Very hard on the drive components.
Limited slip differentials provide traction to both wheels but allow a limited amount of slip in the differential to prevent the tire scuffing.
The Eaton Locker is available on Heavy Duty GM trucks, it's different than positraction. The locker locks both wheels for gettin out of slick spots, it only works at slow speeds, not meant for going around corners etc. I have it on my GMC 2500 and its almost as good as 4 wheel drive for pulling boats out or in mud etc. Positraction is good for race cars, Eaton Lockers are for trucks, good for driving straight at slow speeds out of ice etc.

RE: Duramax dead batteries

mine lasted 5 years and then went all at once in recent hot weather. 5 years is not bad for an OEM battery. I replaced both of them myself last week.

RE: Navistar plucks another plum

I don't think GM wants to sell their MDT line, its just that they are losing billions of dollars per year and are forced to raise cash to avoid bankrupcy. Most of GM's current products are not suited for $4.00 per gallon fuel. If gas goes back down to under $3.00 per gallon GM's cash shortage problem would be helped and maybe solved and they wouldn't need to sell off product lines. GM is making payments for healthcare and large pensions for thousands of retired workers that makes it difficult for their products to be competive with foreign cars.

RE: instaboat

I tried out my Instaboat today and it was great. Glad I bought it, very simple to set up and handles great on the lake.

RE: Travel Trailer Freeway bounce or hop

Could be weight distribution, have you noticed a difference if your water tanks are full or empty? Also depends on were the tanks are located. Like the previous post stated you need about 15% of the trailer weight on the hitch.

RE: A class storage in California

http://mcbridesrvstorage.rtrk.com/?scid=302091&kw=1778
This is close to LAX and ONT airports. Shuttles run from LAX to ONT and McBride's is just around 3 miles from ONT airport. The climate here is dry so no mold problems.

RE: Towing a 4300 lb trailer with a Nissan V6 Frontier?

If you don't ever tow in the wind or mountains it may be ok. For $15K I would get a used Ford, Chevy, or Dodge truck in 3/4 ton if possible. There are some great buys right now on full sized pickups. The Nissan V6 pickup doesn't get great gas mileage and would even be worse towing.

RE: Need HELP picking out a generator.

A 2000i runs my 13.5 AC easy and it will on most newer trailers some of the older ACs takes twice as much power to start. My AC takes about 11 amps to start and a single EU2000i puts out 16 amps. You will need to shut the AC off a few min if you want to use the microwave, it won't run both at once. Suggest you buy one and if you have problems buy the second generator.

RE: backing up over a curb

I have been backing mine over the curb for several years using 2 pieces of 4x4 tapered off 45 degrees with a table saw. That leaves 2 or 3 inches the tire has to climb. I have seen the curb ramps on the above link and they look like the best solution.

RE: Duramax diesel smell

Maybe the mass air flow sensor needs cleaned or a dirty air filter. The mass flow air sensor is very delicate and can't be touched, to clean it spray it with CRC mass air flow sensor cleaner.

RE: Need Help and Advise on Travel Trailer

I would try renting a trailer if possible before buying, you will learn alot. Unless you are towing on flat lands close to home I would not recommend a trailer anywhere near your tow vehicle capacity both for safety and having a pleasant ride to the campground.

RE: Electrical Question

Most of the newer 13.5 BTU ACs draw 13 amps or less. Alot of people use their home outlets with adapter to run AC. You should have 30 amps or more then you can run other stuff at the same time as your AC.

RE: Why do newer travel trailers have fewer/smaller windows?

Large windows take away from structure strenght and make a trailer hard to cool if a large window is facing the sun also cold in the winter. With large slideouts and large windows there is not much left to hold the trailer together on rough roads. I have a big window by the bed but get cold air off of it, it's nice to look out of when in the campground, makes the trailer seem larger with the blinds open.

Maybe they are aired out by now. The formalyhyde smell will go away with time just like a new car smell from all the glue used in cars.

RE: Honda EU3000 for 24' Coachmen TT

Im sure it will cause one EU2000i runs our 13500 btu AC. We have to shut the AC off a few minutes if we use the microwave. A EU3000i should run them both at once.
